“Hunger knows no barriers”.
That is the motto of KSK (Kechara Soup Kitchen), a non-profit organisation based in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Founded in 2006 by Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, a Tibetan Buddhist teacher originally from Taiwan who settled in Malaysia, KSK aims to spread compassion and engage with humanitarian work.
Tsem Rinpoche, also the founder and spiritual advisor of the Kechara House Buddhist Association, established various initiatives under its wing, including temples, retreat centres and charity projects. Among these, the Kechara Soup Kitchen was created to feed the less privileged in the streets of Kuala Lumpur.
Since registering as an NGO in 2008, KSK evolved from a simple soup kitchen to a full-blown humanitarian foundation. Today, it offers a range of services including mobile clinics, food banks, job placements, upskilling training for single mothers, and shelters for the elderly. Emphasising inclusivity, KSK welcomes volunteers from all walks of life to contribute towards their mission of helping those in need, no matter their background.
On 6 July 2024, our Malaysian team joined hands with KSK to deliver essential provisions to 12 families within the Selangor area. In teams of 4, we distributed dry food items such as milk powder, canned food, instant noodles, rice, cooking oil, soaps and many more.
As we visited each home, the residents greeted us warmly, their faces lit with anticipation. Inviting us in, they expressed heartfelt gratitude for the provisions. We spent time chatting with some of the recipients, sharing stories and capturing moments before moving to our next stops.
In one memorable instance, we met a single mother struggling to make ends meet. Her gratitude was overwhelming, and our brief visit brought smiles to her family.
“As the KSK put it, ‘Hunger Knows No Barriers’, and we couldn’t agree more,” said Louis Lowe, a representative at WeTrade. “We hope our efforts make a difference and inspire everyone else to help others in need because kindness transcends all boundaries and borders, too. Together, we can make a significant impact.”
Our CSR activity concluded with a sense of fulfilment and a renewed commitment to compassion. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with the community and make a difference.
